A gap in your teeth isn’t only a cosmetic issue but could also cause oral health problems. Keep reading to learn various solutions for fixing the gap in your teeth.
If you have a gap in your teeth, you may be less confident in your smile. But teeth gaps are more than a cosmetic issue. They can cause oral health problems by providing a convenient place to trap food and bacteria, which in turn can cause gum disease.
Here at C & C Dental in Sugar Land, Texas, we want all our patients to enjoy optimal oral health and be fully confident in their smiles. Fixing teeth gaps can address both issues.
Depending on how severe the gap in your teeth is and what caused it, we offer several solutions to close that gap and give you a healthy smile you can be proud of.
Here’s how we do it.
Invisalign®
The most traditional way of solving gaps in teeth is with orthodontic treatment, such as metal braces.
A more modern orthodontic option is Invisalign. This innovative treatment uses a series of clear plastic aligners to shift and straighten teeth over time to close any gaps.
Invisalign is a discreet method for treating misaligned teeth because most people won’t notice you’re wearing the clear aligners. However, it generally takes 6-18 months to complete the treatment.
Veneers
Veneers are thin porcelain shells that we bond to the front of teeth to correct a variety of smile flaws. They’re custom-made, so their color, tone, shape, and size match your natural teeth.
If you have a small gap between your teeth, applying veneers to the teeth on either side of the gap can cover the gap so your smile looks perfect.
Implants and crowns
If you have a large gap, such as one left by a missing tooth, receiving an implant and crown can be an excellent solution.
An implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace a tooth root. Once it fuses with the bone, a crown goes on top of the implant to replace the tooth and fill in the gap.
Bonding
If the gap between your teeth is fairly small, dental bonding can be a quick solution. We apply a tooth-colored resin to fill the gap; a special light then hardens the resin. This result can often be accomplished in one visit, and the procedure doesn’t involve anesthesia or prep work.
