Stop Doing This if You Want Whiter Teeth
Want to see white, sparkling teeth when you look in the mirror? A good place to start is to stop doing a few things.

If you’re frustrated because your teeth are getting duller and yellower when you want them to become whiter, don’t despair. There are a variety of things you can do to get whiter teeth.

To be more precise, there are a variety of things you should stop doing if you want whiter teeth.

Here at C & C Dental in Sugar Land, Texas, we see many patients who have enjoyed success with this approach. Let’s jump in.

Stop avoiding your toothbrush

Regular brushing and flossing are vital to keeping teeth clean and white. These daily habits clear away food particles and bacteria from your teeth. If you neglect your oral hygiene routine, bacteria and plaque build up on your teeth, giving them a more yellowish look.

Stop consuming dark foods and drinks

Dark or acidic food such as berries and tomatoes, or dark-colored drinks such as coffee, tea, wine, and soda, can lead to dull, yellow teeth. The color particles in these substances penetrate the enamel in your teeth over time, darkening your teeth.

You don’t have to stop consuming these foods and drinks entirely, but you should mitigate their effects. Drink tea and soda through a straw, for example, to minimize contact with your teeth, and try drinking your morning coffee in one sitting instead of sipping on it throughout the day.

Also, rinse your mouth with water after drinking dark liquids. Or even better, brush your teeth.

Stop smoking

Smoking or using tobacco products can lead to deep teeth discoloration because the nicotine and tar come in contact with your teeth. As these substances sink into the tiny pores in your enamel, they leave your teeth brown, yellow, and dull.

More than helping you get whiter teeth, quitting smoking also benefits your oral health and your overall health.

Stop avoiding the dentist

You know how you sometimes skip your regular dental cleaning? Stop doing that if you want whiter teeth. At C & C Dental, we use professional teeth cleaning tools to remove persistent plaque and tartar from your teeth.

While daily brushing and flossing are necessary, that doesn’t get all the plaque. Regular cleanings help keep your teeth as white as possible.

If you try all these strategies and your teeth still aren’t as white as you want, our dental team at C & C Dental offers teeth whitening and veneers. Just call our Sugar Land office at 281-242-0241 or book your appointment online today.
